Although it’s way too early to be talking about a redesign since the 6th generation Passat was only launched two years ago at the 2005 Geneva Show, nevertheless it’s quite interesting to see what the German press has to say about it. Autozeitung believes that VW will proceed to a facelift in 2009 –most probably at the 2009 Geneva Show, with aesthetic changes including a redesigned front end inspired from the upcoming Tiguan. Mechanic-wise, the German magazine suggests that VW will substitute also present the Groups new 122Hp 1.4TSI in the range which will also include 1.6, 2.0 and 3.2 V6 engines. –Continued below We’ll agree with Autozeitung that the most possible launch date for the hot-selling in Europe, Passat is spring 2009, however, we think that VW will replace the Passat’s normally aspirated 1.6FSI and 2.0FSI engines with the Group’s new 122Hp 1.4TSI and 160Hp 1.8TFSI motors. We also think that the engine substitution will occur quite earlier, maybe even in this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
