Honda’s OSM Concept Redesigned to Look Like Next-Gen S2000

Honda S2000 OSMWhen Honda introduced the OSM concept at the British Motor Show in July, many people saw it as a styling exercise for the next-generation S2000. However, truth is that the OSM is a roadster concept of Honda’s next hybrid sportscar, the CR-Z, due for launch in 2010 –see details of the CR-Z here and of the OSM here.

Honda S2000 OSMA member of the Greek forum 4Troxoi that goes by the alias “Morpheus” decided to prove this by showing us what the OSM Concept would actually look like if Honda’s intentions were to preview the second-generation S2000. Simply by changing the OSM’s overall proportions and especially with the low slung, elongated front-end, the artist actually managed to transform the concept into a RWD-like roadster that could indeed pass for the future S2000. Not bad, wouldn’t you say?

2010 Honda S2000 Roadster Rendering

While we still haven’t received any official word on the S2000 replacement, Japanese car magazines are at it again drawing up their own renderings of Honda’s next generation rear-wheel-drive roadster. According to T.L. who sent us this latest scan, the unnamed Japanese magazines says that new S2000 is expected to be unveiled in 2010 with worldwide sales starting in 2011. It is stated that Honda’s S2000 will offer buyers more options in terms of powertrains, including two new engines, a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder V-TEC unit delivering approximately 250Hp and a 3.5-litre V6 V-TEC unit with about 350Hp.

Thanks for the scan T.L.!

Revised Honda S2000 with Type-S Suspension Goes on Sale in the UK

Honda’s refreshed S2000 roadster is now on sale in the UK with new suspension settings and minor aesthetic changes. The most important news concerns of course the revised suspension which is identical to that fitted to its Japanese counterpart,t the S2000 Type-S. It includes re-tuned dampers, uprated springs and thicker anti-roll bars that promise to give the roadster greater stability, agile handling and more responsive steering. There are no changes to the S2000’s high-revving 240PS 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine. -Continued

Also featuring on the 2008 S2000 are the new 17-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels and a new paint colour – Synchro Silver. On the inside, there are three new leather interiors to choose from – Black with red stitching, Brown with red stitching and Red with black sides. There is also a design change to the headrest frame which has been re-shaped to offer greater roll-over protection. The 2008 S2000 is priced from £28,050 for the Roadster and £28,600 for the GT model with detachable roof.

Tokyo Show: 2008 Honda S2000 Type-S

Honda will show-off a limited edition version of the S2000 roadster at this year’s Tokyo Show. The S2000 Type S is the Japanese market twin of the S2000 Club Racer that’s sold in the States. Like the CS, the Type S features an aerodynamic package, aggressive suspension settings and increased body and chassis rigidity.

However, while the S2000 CS is offered exclusively with a removable aluminium hardtop, the Type S retains the basic version’s soft-top. We’ve included a translated version of the Japanese press release that you can try to read after the jump –that is, if you don’t have anything else better to do. Alternately, you can check out our post on the S2000 CR by clicking here. -High-res image gallery after the jump

Largest Gathering Of Honda S2000s Ever

On September 8, Honda US organized the “S2000 Homecoming” at the company’s Torrance, California, facility. Nearly 500 S2000 roadsters attended the event making it the largest gathering of S2000s to date. The 1,000 guests that took part had the chance to meet Shigeru Uehara, the chief engineer for the S2000 who flew from Japan to attend. S2000 enthusiasts also had an early viewing of the all-new S2000 CR before its scheduled on sale date in early October. -Continued after the jump

"It was very rewarding to see so many fans of the S2000 gathered together for this event," said Shigeru Uehara, chief engineer of the Honda S2000. "I was very happy to present the S2000 CR as my gift to enthusiasts in the United States."

"This is what owners have wanted for a while," said S2000 owner Mike Trinh, a Community Organizer of S2K International, a group of owners that meets regularly in Torrance and West Covina, California. "The Homecoming isn't just about the car; it's about the community, getting all of the owners together to share stories and information."

Honda Porn: S2000 Mugen At Nurburgring

Here’s a little something to keep you occupied for exactly 8 minutes and 46 seconds. Lighten up and enjoy a cool driver in a savagely beautiful car attacking the best racetrack in the world. Makes you wanna leave everything behind and grab the next flight to Nurburgring, doesn’t it…

Honda S2000 With Corvette LS1 V8 Transplant

About time we took a break from today’s flood of Frankfurt previews. And what better than a good-old V8 engine swap on a Honda S2000; it’s totally ludicrous, it sounds troublesome and it’ll probably cost more than a Honda Fit if the work’s being outsourced. What else do you want to make it interesting? Mmm, now that we mentioned it, a video when the project’s finished. But for the time being, we’ll have to be content with the updates posted on the S2000 forum by the car’s owner that goes by the nickname, “hboy777” (click the link below).

1971 Toyota Celica With Honda S2000 Powertrain

We just love first generation Toyota Celicas for their rear-wheel drive layout and their clean, sexy looks. And this 1971 Celica must be one of the best examples we’ve seen lately. Koich, the car’s owner, not only restored this classic Japanese coupe but he took things a bit further by completely upgrading the Celica’s mechanics. Under the near stock exterior, this beautiful “Japanese Sleeper” is equipped with a Honda S2000, F20C inline 4-cylinder engine which produces 243 Hp @ 8,300 rpm and 153 ft·lbf (208 Nm) of torque @ 7,500 rpm. The engine is matted to the S2000’s 6-speed manual gearbox. -Continued: Click "Read More..." below

Other mechanical upgrades include the new suspension with AE86 aftermarket goodies and the high-performance brakes with Wilwood calipers. Inside, Koichiro threw most of the Celica’s stock components installing a 10pt roll cage, Sparco bucket seats and a Honda S2000 digital instrument cluster along with AEM ECU and serial gauges. We don’t know how the Celica drives, but we’re more than tempted to find out.

Thanks for the tip Toni!

Honda S2000CR: New York debut for lightweight, race-inspired version

Honda USA’s vice president says it all about the S2000CR;"The S2000 CR is the closest thing you can get to a Honda-built racecar with license plate holders and a horn”. We might not be too fond about the full-body aerodynamic package but according to Honda, it helps reduce lift. Even more importantly the race-spec CR feautures aggressive suspension settings, increased body and chassis rigidity and weight reduction through the replacement of the soft-top with an aluminium hardtop (-90 pounds or 41kg)as well as the removal of etxra’s like A/C & the stereo system.

Although we’re not so sure about the A/C we don’t give a rat’s merde about the Stereo; we’ll do fine with the rpm-crazy 237Hp 2.2 VTEC that remains untouched. The S2000 CR will be available as an entirely new S2000 trim level when it goes on sale in the fall of 2007.-Click “Read More…” below to see a high-res image gallery & the press release

PRESS RELEASE: Coming to a Track Near You: Club Racer-Inspired 2008 Honda S2000 CR

Prototype Makes World Debut at the New York International Auto Show

04/04/2007 - NEW YORK - The club racer-inspired 2008 Honda S2000 CR Prototype making its world debut at the New York International Auto Show introduces a higher level of track-worthy performance and style to the S2000 roadster, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today.

The S2000 CR will be available as an entirely new S2000 trim level when it goes on sale in the fall of 2007. The lighter, stiffer and more aggressive overall design is engineered to maximize the S2000's potential on a racetrack with the goal of substantially-improving track times, chassis balance and feel. The factory-tuned roadster provides highly-aggressive suspension settings, increased body and chassis rigidity, overall weight reduction and an aerodynamic body kit dialed-in for reduced lift. An aluminum hardtop replaces the convertible soft top as standard equipment.

"The S2000 CR is the closest thing you can get to a Honda-built racecar with license plate holders and a horn," said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "Its features and equipment are designed to appeal to weekend club racing enthusiasts."

The full-body aerodynamic package reduces lift through large and highly-tuned front and rear spoilers. Exclusive chassis features include a quicker steering ratio, Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tires, a wider rear tire size, firmer springs and dampers, larger stabilizer bars and a new wheel design in a dark gray color.

Substantial structural bracing has been added to the storage area previously occupied by the soft top, resulting in additional rigidity. The aluminum hard top replaces the soft top of the conventional S2000, resulting in an overall weight savings of approximately 90 pounds when removed (relative to the current S2000).

The exclusive interior is highlighted by unique cloth seating surfaces with yellow stitching, a unique spherical aluminum shifter and carbon fiber-style trim panels. Air conditioning and an AM/FM Stereo with CD player are optional equipment. Standard features for the S2000 include 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, ABS and Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA). While VSA serves to effectively enhance driver control during acceleration, braking, and cornering, the system can be disabled with the touch of a button when conditions warrant it.

Widely considered the quintessential roadster-style sports car, the S2000 is the performance icon for the Honda brand and combines uncompromising racetrack-ready performance with everyday usability. The S2000 rewards driving enthusiasts with a potent 2.2-liter, 16-valve DOHC VTEC® 4-cylinder engine and a precise, short throw 6-speed manual transmission, along with tenacious handling and a perfect 50/50 weight balance.

The renowned high-revving engine delivers 237 horsepower at 7,800 rpm and 162 lb-ft. of torque at 6,800 rpm. Perfectly complimenting the engine's output characteristics is a compact, longitudinally-mounted, close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission that features a direct linkage for precise shifting and quick throws. Combined with a front and rear double wishbone suspension, precise electric power steering, and a torque-sensing limited slip differential, the end result is a complete, no compromise, performance package for the enthusiast driver.
