Porsche Boxster S Design Edition 2 with 303HP

Along with the Cayman S Sport Porsche also revealed a limited production version of the Boxster S called “Porsche Design Edition 2”. Equipped with the same 303HP 3.4-liter boxer engine as the Cayman S Sport, the Boxster S Design Edition 2 stands out thanks to the “Carrara White” colour that’s combined with grey stripes. The 19-inch SportDesign alloys, the side air intakes, the centre console and the dials on the three round instruments are also finished in white. The white theme is complemented by the grey roof and the black leather interior. -Continued

Production of the Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2 will amount to 500 units at a price in the German market of €65,539 which includes 19 per cent VAT and national specifications. Sales will begin in September.

Porsche to Cooperate with Magna Steyr for Boxster & Cayman Assembly

In a statement issued today, Porsche said that in 2012, it will replace Finnish contract manufacturer Valmet Automotive with the Austrian company Magna Steyr for the production of the mid-engine Boxster and Cayman models.

Holger P. Härter, Deputy Chairman of Porsche SE, commented: “Over the last eleven years, Valmet has built more than 200,000 sports cars of outstanding quality for us. Our decision not to continue our successful cooperation is in no way a vote against Valmet. Rather, it was the high development capacity and competence of our future partner that tipped the balance in favor of our new partner.”

Video: Radio Station Drops Porsche Boxster from Crane

A Finnish radio station that goes by the name “NRJ” held a contest called “Cash or Crash” where listeners could vote to either win or destroy an all-new Porsche Boxster roadster. According to our reader Toni N. who sent us this tip, 56% of the people who took part in the vote apparently didn’t believe in luck so they chose to crash the German sportscar.

NRJ did what it promised by tying up the Boxster on a crane and dropping it from a height of 30 meters or about 100 feet. The unfortunate incident –for car lovers like ourselves that is- took place in a parking lot in Finland on Wednesday, June 18, 2008. -Video after the jump

Thanks for the tip Toni N.!

Porsche Releases 303HP Boxster RS 60 Spyder

Porsche will launch a limited edition version of the Boxster roadster inspired from the Type 718 RS 60 Spyder of the 60’s at the 2007 Bologna Motor Show in early December. The most significant change (for Porsche purists that is) is the modified exhaust system made up of a sports exhaust combined with a dual tailpipe that increases engine output to 303 bhp. -Continued after the jump

The special edition model is offered in a GT silver metallic paintwork accentuated by the red roof and natural leather interior in Carrera red. Alternatively, Porsche also offers the choice of dark grey natural leather in conjunction with a black roof. The front end of RS 60 Spyder taken as a standard feature from Porsche’s SportDesign Package distinguishes the car from the Boxster S while the car sits on Porsche SportDesign 19-inch wheels.

Other unique features include the windscreen frame finished in black and red rear light clusters as well as the centre console, while the rear sections of the seat backrests, the rollbars and the seat-belts are all finished in GT silver metallic. Also, there are door trim strips made of stainless steel bearing the “RS 60 Spyder” model designation, a sport gearshift lever, special surface grooves in the centre sections of the sports seats and the centre door linings as well as on the steering wheel rim and handbrake lever. Finally, Porsche removed the binnacle otherwise positioned above the instrument cluster which is finished at the front in GT silver metallic.

The new Boxster RS 60 Spyder’s production is limited to a Special Edition of 1,960 units with the market launch starting worldwide in March 2008. Including 19 per cent VAT and country-specific requirements, the retail price in Germany is Euro 63,873 (approx $94,800) the base price Euro 53,500 (about $79,500).

Porsche Boxster Facelift Scooped

A true follower of the evolution process, Porsche is setting its eyes now on its base model, the Boxster. These spy pics reveal minor to be honest, aesthetic differences like the slightly changed front bumper and tail-lights. However, as one should expect from every facelifted Porsche, the covered-up Boxster probably hides several mechanical upgrades which should ensure that it remains one of the best –if not the best, cars in its segment.
