Ford to Cut Down Workforce by 12%

A lot of clouds seem to be gathering over at Ford's headquarters as the Detroit News reported today that the world's third- largest automaker will cut its U.S. salaried workforce by between 10 percent and 12 percent in an attempt to offset the consequences from rising fuel and raw materials. To make things even worse, the lay-offs won’t be voluntary.

The announcement was made to Ford senior employees during a "town hall" meeting with Vice President Jim Farley (pic) on Friday morning. According to Madeline Eason, head of human resources for Farley's division, the job losses are still estimates and the American automaker hasn't completed plans for the cuts. -Continued

As for the involuntary layoffs, Eason said that while it was a bitter pill to swallow for a staff that has "been through a lot already," but Ford cannot wait six months for people to make up their minds about whether to stay or go. "We just can't afford it," Eason said. "We're looking to be as humane ... as we possibly can."
